Kids Yoga Teacher Spotlight: Jessica Austin

Tell us a little about yourself:

I was born and raised in Denver! I graduated from Cherry Creek High School, and then Metropolitan State University of Denver with a B.S. in Criminology and a minor in Forensic Anthropology. After college, I decided to switch paths and explore teaching yoga, specifically to kids. I have four kids myself, who inspired me to create my business, Yogammunity. I wanted to make yoga, wellness and preparedness available and accessible to the community! I have a daughter, Julie who is 14, a son Michael who is 8, and my step kiddos are Avi, who's 18 and Ollie who's 7. I'm married to my husband a year in May! I currently teach kid's yoga classes throughout Denver, as well as CPR, AED, and First Aid certification courses. Tell us about what initially interested you about taking a kids yoga teacher training?  What was your intention with this training?

I decided to get my RCYT to add to my RYT (Registered Adult Yoga Teacher) and be able to share yoga with kids! How have you found the experience of learning how to teach kids yoga?

The biggest thing I've learned is to be flexible - no pun intended! Kids are unpredictable and fun, and it's a great opportunity to let go of rigidity when you're teaching kid's classes! Where have you grown as a caretaker and a person because of the training and teaching?

I have grown exponentially from training and teaching! If you would have told me in college I was going to be a kid's yoga teacher, I would have laughed in your face! Getting to teach and watch how kids grow when they practice yoga is the most rewarding gift! Where are you currently teaching kids yoga and how has taking a training supported you in your class offerings?

I currently teach throughout the Denver community. Check out my website to see my current offerings. I hope to see you and your family there!

Is there anything else that you’d like to share, especially to people who are thinking about taking a kids yoga teacher training?

Never say never! I have had such a wonderful, positive experience from taking kid's yoga training and teaching! Always try something new, you never know if you'll love it!
